Marco Luka is a 22 year old multi-faceted artist from North Carolina. Marco is a part of the boyband Weston Estate, but in his spare time from the group he has consistently released high quality singles with top tier visuals to accompany them. This time around he's back with his first project "Insomnia," and we had him answer a few questions about the EP and on what got him to where he is today.
Riley: You recently released a new single, “Rush.” What should someone expect from this track? (Assuming this interview will most likely come out post-release)
Marco: "I wanted the track to feel like the kind of adrenaline you only get from the fear you’re losing someone you love".
Riley: The quality of your music and visuals has continually refined over time even though you're pursuing a career with your band Weston Estate at the same time. How have you managed to give your full focus to both projects?
Marco: "I do my best to stay in flow every day but my reality is just hard work, late nights and plenty stimulants. I often remind myself to be a kid in everything I do".
Riley: You’ve teased snippets of your project “Insomnia” for multiple years now. What made you feel like you were ready to release it this time around now that you're planning to release it this fall?
Marco: "I took a step away from releasing so that I could learn how to produce my own stuff. It frustrated me that I couldn’t always communicate what I heard in my head. I hope everyone can hear me finding the tools that I needed as they listen to the tracks. And most love to nicci, aly, and max for helping me realize it all".
Riley: What’s one thing people don’t know about you that might surprise them?
Marco: "I first started as a photographer and visual artist so I make sure to always have a hand in creating anything that comes alongside the music".
Riley: Who is your favorite up and comer right now that you think more people should know about?
Marco: "Highway & Che are both pushing boundaries in a way that reminds me of what got me excited about music in the first place."
Riley: Are there any projects you’re working on in your solo career or with the band that you wanted to shine a light on?
Marco: "My project “insomnia” comes out this fall along with a Weston Estate project we’re calling “superbloom” — looking forward to touring both in just a couple weeks."
