Artist Highlight: 3ee

3ee’s journey in music is proof to the evolution, passion, and embracing every twist and turn along the way. At 26, they’ve come a long way from their beginnings in Dallas, Texas, where music first became a part of their life when their elementary school choir teacher pointed out how gifted of a signer they were. Although they were too shy to audition back then, their love for music blossomed through years of playing trumpet in marching bands, youth orchestras, and even pursuing a college education in music. For a long time, 3ee’s dream was to become the principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. But life had other plans, and they found themselves exploring a completely different musical path, leading to the genre bending artist we know today.

Their latest project, LUVSNGS, showcases that evolution in a bold and exciting way. The EP draws heavily from 2000s production influences like Timbaland, Pharrell, and Scott Storch, incorporating their iconic sounds into 3ee’s own distinct style. The project kicked off with the single “SUPERSONICS,” a track that set the tone for an exploration of nostalgia paired with modern creativity. While much of the project was crafted in their Brooklyn studio, a place where they feel most comfortable experimenting, 3ee also stepped out of their comfort zone by working in professional studios and collaborating with other talented writers and producers.

For 3ee, music is a melting pot of influences. Their overall sound draws inspiration from artists like D’Angelo, Missy Elliot, and Justin Timberlake, blending elements of R&B, soul, and experimental sounds. But their creativity doesn’t stop at music. 3ee has a deep love for DIY projects, from designing their own graphics and motion visuals to altering clothes and painting. For this release, they even designed CDs to complement the 2000s vibe of LUVSNGS. Whether it’s through music, visuals, or fashion, 3ee’s passion for creating extends far beyond a single avenue.

When talking about the meaningful moments in their career, they come from two sources: seeing the people they’ve grown with succeed and creating music alongside those they once idolized. For 3ee, sharing space and creativity with artists they once considered out of their league is a surreal experience, especially when it happens in their own studio without egos in the way. These moments reaffirm the value of the work they’ve put in and remind them that success is not a solo journey, it’s about uplifting the community around them.

Looking back, 3ee wishes they could tell their younger self that there isn’t just one path to success. As a freelance creative, they’ve learned that the pressure to be a “full-time artist” often overlooks the reality of income and stability. There are many ways to achieve your dreams, and the journey can be just as important as the destination. For 3ee, embracing those alternative paths has been key to maintaining both their artistry and overall well-being.
