23-year old Ricardo Garcia, otherwise known as Apollo1027, has eclipsed into a rising sensation out of Central Florida's, Orlando. Born in the heart of Puerto Rico, Apollo moved from San Juan early on, but music has stuck around plus his experiences/ perspective gleam through his discography. Positive peer pressure got him into the music-making mentality, when he trickled into it in high-school and surrounding friends pushed the narrative then the rest "became history". He's a terrific singer/songwriter and it carries fluidly as you can kind of see he ventures into new sounds of sorts.
Bangers like "Designer Snakes" and "Cartier Fleece" are some of his more critically acclaimed tracks, with strapping basses, however his cadence and flow goes beyond the flashiness, as he provides a thorough and distinguishable sound. He's pieced together some great collaborations with the favors of Kid Riz and JusLo, with hopes of merging and continuing to merge with some others on the exponential rise like SSGKobe and Young Fazo. Hopefully, leading to the storybook ending: a Drake feature, but Apollo isn't waiting around as since he's provided a lot of hip-hop/r&b-bending music in the last year or so. His first and only album release, from 2019, self-titled 1027 , grabbed some traction for its prolific variance and standout title "Madagascar". Apollo1027 flips the script so well with electro-impressions and I believe his timing on tracks is some of the best I've heard in recent time.
"Regardless" is one of my more-recent, personal favorites where he is unveiling the truthfulness to some relationships utilizing his own experiences to a catchy and steady pop type beat. He projects his voice/harmony really well at the end with a cluster of symphonic sounds--I really f*cking love the drums too."Sweetheart" (track from EP Dear Loneliness, Leave Me Alone) is a stepping stone of which really allured me to Apollo's sound and it's one his first drops ever. It boasts an OVOXO-esque sound from those Golden early 2010's, like an eerie trap beat. Fast-forward and it's cool to see glimpses of that sound then and how it's now incorporated.
His latest release, "Purple Heart", a stem of some things he was working on during the Pandemic in 2020, transcended into his fourth offering of the year. "I was blessed to have the opportunity to work with multi-platinum producer CB (Chris Barnett) on this track out in LA. Excited for it to finally be out." If you've ever played the game Tetris--a parallel to Garcia's life trying to stack and fit together varying important pieces of his life, from romance to family and newfound fame, and struggling doing so at that. The song is impacted with soul which serves well (necessary) in the case of his music and features a dope visual out now on YT, directed by @yungthanh.
Keeping the ball rolling is what's in the foresights for Apollo1027, as he's catering to over 35K monthly Spotify listeners now and counting. His concluding advice, which I really enjoyed:
"It’s easy to get caught up in your head as an artist. Especially with a bunch of opinions constantly flying around. Just focus on creating. Have fun with it. Perfection is an illusion we should all strive for, but it’s still an illusion. So don’t get too caught up with It."
