Artist Highlight: Bazio

Bazio is a 20 year old trailblazer striving to put Melbourne, Australia onto the music scene while also popularizing his name here in the states. From creating covers of his favorite songs off his parents iPod onward to recording in high school on GarageBand, to now boasting over 40,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

Originally, he felt outcasted in his homeland, not taking much influence from what Australia had to offer musically, but came around to embrace all that Melbourne and the entirety of Australia at that, provide to the music scene. With early onset of hip-hop impression, he began writing and rapping which segwayed him into the world of all other genres. Where it stands, Bazio walks the line of alternative-rap in a sense, uniting the two to draft his own.

The original version of his hit song “criminals” dating back to early summer of ‘22 caught wind of many ears which he notes was unexpected in contrast to those who drop and claim they know this was the one. The arrangement is unruffled although caters to some cryptic/distorted sequences— his staple guitar overlays the background of the alternative, romantic ballad. The word criminal holds multiple meanings in this context, my favorite utilization: “Your face so beautiful, it’s criminal”.

Harlem’s own and established hip-hop artist, Skizzy Mars, discovered the artist via the original and through flowers & numerous conversations, ultimately hopped on the remix, laying down an impactful verse synopsizing the affinity for one who’s no longer yours.

Other hits like "Mad", which has amassed the most streams thus far, is a dope glimpse into the hip-hopesque side of Bazio. A groovy, lovey-dovey soliloquy; the opening production is so soulful and let it be known he's taken matters into his own hands to start producing his own tracks as well.

When asked what his favorite song to date is, of his own, he shared that the best is yet to come: "My favorite song(s) aren’t out yet. It’s way too hard to pick just one, but it would be one of the tracks on an upcoming project I’m working on."

Aside from music, you can catch him active on the pitch, growing up an avid soccer fan. Expect a ‘heap’ of music this year, Bazio says, as he braces himself for what could be a very integral year in his life and music.
