Artist Highlight: BigGucciDame

This guy is a pleasure to be around and his music is a direct derivative of that, as it’s filled with soulfulness and joy. 22-year old, BigGucciDame, a name he acquired from his peers and has spun into his own, hails from North Miami Beach, FL and is bringing the good word back to music with his own variations. Discussing his own life topics and incorporating his faith/spiritualness, Dame refers to himself as a “Christian who makes music”, not casting himself under the Christian Rap umbrella. Dame has created a coalition of lo-fi beats and rap, all the while professing his faith in a wonderful way.

Once the pandemic was imminent, he sought creativity in different spaces. He mustered some money together to purchase Logic program, while picking up useful tools off the internet. Dame realized how plentiful it is in resources and it quickly became his encyclopedia for music, particularly, TikTok and Youtube have become some of his best friends, with help from some integral people including @deathbymartymar, whom extended him his first official studio visit. Since 2020, he’s blazed a trail for himself with timely singles and a knack for marketing.

Testing out different genres and frequencies, he came across lo-fi (Low Fidelity), which initiated the creation of one of his favorite singles, “Memories to the Future”, in 2020. @powfu was another influence in this realm whom Dame conferred and expanded his knowledge of lo-fi. His music is very rhythmic, feel-good, and boasts a lot of that hyphy taste that people enjoy. A title that released this year, "I'm Not Alone", is a great comparative piece of the range, a slow-speed realization featuring soft instruments and Dame with some casual rapping and singing at that!

It's rather important to him that he keeps his audience broad and covers all the ground despite falling towards this Christian rap subset. "Substance is everything. The best songs are relatable and you can attach a memory to it", Dame shared, discussing his objectives with the purpose of his music. His mom has been one of his biggest supporters he noted, often casting her own advice and contributing, “going around her office playing my music out loud to catch people reaction.” It brings him joy all the more she can enjoy the songs he creates without the interruption of expletives, drugs, etc.

Fast-forward to now and BigGucciDame has inaugurated this brand for himself, hosting over 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. His most popular song to date “Road to Heaven” featuring Drup has collected over 100,000 streams and he's beginning to reap the benefits of what he’s sewn. “FOMO” being his most recent single, another collaboration this time with Kai Uriah--a great vibe going into the summer about missing out on a certain someone. For the remainder of the year, the goal is to keep pushing singles every other week or so, collaborating (possibly snagging some dream collaborations with koi or Tory Lanez) with and continuing to gain expertise.
