Artist Highlight: Blvck Svm

With great pleasure, we're introducing South Florida's own, Blvck Svm, to Aurision's spotlight this week for his esteemed bars, charged by nonchalant synonyms and similes alike paired with a steady cadence, yet one that carries weight when you peer into what he's saying.

Growing up in Pembroke Pines, seeing to it that he venture elsewhere to further his vernacular and experiences at that, Ben has taken his creativity up a notch and made home in the Chi, circling himself around good folks, enjoying the creative process, and hooping when he's got the downtime.

When he landed in Chicago, with school at the head of his priorities, he began making splashes in the rap game albeit doing so for some 10 years now. Still young, at only 24 years of age and now having a 150-thousand junction of monthly listeners, the way has really only recently been paved for the star. This artist takes inspiration in the theory of contradiction and utilizing his words to evoke a portrayal of something beyond what a listener can imagine.

In discussing with Blvck Svm, we both came to the conclusion on some of the heavy-hitters who perform this very notion at best; that being Earl Sweatshirt, Kendrick Lamar, and MF Doom was the pick of the litter for him. Doom was a prestigious precedent for the younger Svm, as he discovered him his sophomore year of college. "It felt kind of magnetic listening to him...while the ultimate goal of most rappers might be to put together a cohesive narrative of something, then you listen to Doom and he's subverting that whole thing. A lot of his sh*t is him rapping about random things (rapping abstractly)." He sees it fit that he can string together a band of things that may apparently not make sense and generate this intriguingly, refreshing take like: "VVS choker chain, Reggie Miller", in "Hypnosis".

While the pandemic slowed down ensuing progression, his release of "Bleach" caught wind in everyone ears, as it exploded for over 3.5 M stream on Spotify, just when he was down and out, ready to pursue elsewhere. "Got an invite to a show out in Paris, a ni**a just downloaded Rosetta Stone", he states having floated all over the well made twanging beat done by @prodlevel & @chxllofficial.

Single, "salemwitch", stemmed from a play on words and an actual pair of Yves Saint Laurent earrings. Another exemplary showing of his way of storytelling and seemingly making something out of nothing. The catch is sometimes there may be no story at all which is exactly the notion we were referring to earlier. Not everything has to hold a purpose, but the way in which Blvck Svm conjures his words and can still do so is a feat not many can reach. But don't think there's no meaning at all because much of his experiences and happenings have shaped his music just like everyone.

More solos should be at the forefront since he's been locked in now more than ever on perfecting this craft, stating "I've become obsessed" and open to collaborations at that. Sheri A, whom produced "salemwitch" has served as his go to and will continue to do so as Ben spoke so highly of him. But he too has locked in with producer @sebastiankamae, whom produced the smooth, cafe-esque "Texture" (there's a dope live performance shot by @indiehouse) and there's hopes for a collaboration project there. He did share the title of an upcoming single titled, "25", which will be released on his birthday, December 16th, encapsulating the journey up unto this point and still commemorating the lovely life, that was his mothers before her passing.
