Coming out of a suburb of Richmond Virginia, 19 year old Datboiryen is making some noise for the DMV. The genre-breaking sensation began fooling around freestyling, making beats and recording with friends for fun in 2016, until his sophomore year of highschool when he released his first official song. The song received an astounding response from everyone he showed it to with a very small portion of negative comments. This led Ryen to become more motivated; “This made me realize how much I loved the rush of the feeling I get when I drop a song, it was something I had never experienced before. From that point on, I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.”
While gaining momentum, Ryen was introduced to producers ‘Typhoon’, and ‘Yvngwxvy’, who have helped him in creating his present day sound. As for Ryens sound, it can best be described as genre-breaking while each record contains elements of hip hop, r&b, and hyperpop. On Ryens currently most streamed single “N 2 ME” (produced by Typhoon), the first 2 minutes of the record begins with a more calm r&b vibe and then suddenly switches up to a mesmerizing hyperpop production to wake up the listener. Funny enough, I personally remember first hearing “N 2 ME” on a Niztopia stream and the song had just this exact effect on me, I was woken up and then went straight to Ryens spotify. As a fan of hiphop, r&b, and hyperpop, Ryens music provided a sense of originality, which I haven't experienced for a while now. The fusion of the alluring production, along with Ryens vocal range ensure an attention grabbing experience for the listener.
Like Niztopia, Ryen has met many other creatives along the way, and is now being managed by Tommy Bauer, the owner of one of the most successful production companies in the underground scene; “ Making Tommy as a manager was such an amazing moment solely because it finally made me feel like someone believed in me enough to want to be a part of my team.”
