IZZIHOT! is a through and through rapper, utilizing his sensational wordplay and rhyme scheme to portray an assortment of events he’s seen and/or been a part of, growing up on the Southside of Chicago. He picks up inventiveness from a fairly wide array of music, extending to the famed Gorillaz
He enjoys working with the likes of his best friends and feels like the music occurs more naturally that way. He said, “Usually I try not to think about features because I would rather it happen organically oppose to reaching out to someone who doesn’t even listen to my music. I believe letting it happen naturally makes the song 10x better.” He’s worked numerous times with local Chicago artists like Chase Alex on “Hard 2 Blend”, which we covered earlier in the summer, and a big up and coming producer Dagz! One of my favorite bars of Izzi’s, off of the jam, is “I can’t play no games baby, I’m not Izzi Harvey”!
He has a great syntax & knows how to methodically arrange rhymes in a way like some of the best only know how, displayed in songs like “Last Day of Summer Camp” and “. His top inspirations’ big time producer DP Beats, as well as the world renowned Pharrell. However, he gains creative power from his day-to-day surroundings as well as the homies who have held him down throughout.
Izzi has pieced together some amazing visual displays for his work, as he boasts one of my personal favorite music videos for his song “Red Zone” directed by Maximilian Kelly, Mason Burch, and himself.
His latest release as of July, 2021 “Huey P” is a great offering, preceding his EP on the way Blast or Go Last. “Huey P” which was inspired by Black Panther co-founder Huey P. Newton. He’s no dummy when it comes to synonyms and taking advantage of allusions (not to mention he knows his history).
The title of the upcoming EP is in reference to running the race to win, not just simply finish it. “Meaning get to it now and be in your shit now or you’ll end up being last. That’s something I struggle with myself but I want to get better in that aspect and focus on my craft.” Be on the lookout for my boy as he’s just catching fire out in the windy city!
