Lance Redeker has been surrounded by music all his life, blessed with a family full of musical interest, but it wasn’t until high school he really began to take artistry seriously. Alternative music is one of those genres that just fits the part of “feel good” music and I often draw parallels to a personification that of a coming of age film. Lance is the protagonist to his own story, spewing lyrics of individuality, but resonating with all the rest of the common youth. Heartbreak has been the thing, he says, that has propelled his drive to delve into these songs.
His debut album Holbrook, released in 2020, showcases some of his range with a taste of ruggedness and subtlety. “Y2k” with Rafa Rodriguez is a great one to check out as well as “2:30 AM“ featuring Kaytt with a wonderful female counter-ballad. He actually plays a role in a band which has helped him produce all of the music.
He closed out the year with single “Can I?”, a piece he was very excited about getting out however it took some in-depth self reflection:
“This is a track about the insecurity of messing something up with someone your really into. Specifically in this situation there was a lot of weight because we were friends before the confusing middle ground.”
There is a wonderful video directed by Richard Dombrowski to which Lance finds himself caught in a tangle between a girl and her man, leading to a chase and the rest you’ll have to watch. Lance has picked up journaling in the meantime, in his San Francisco home, which has allowed him to reevaluate his writer’s stance. It has made writing all the easier for him, putting pen to paper then transmitting it for the ears of many. Expect all the more music from him and his group and hopefully another album sometime this year!
