With only five releases to be found on major streaming platforms, Southern California singer/songwriter & producer Maki Adams has already established something that many artists spend lifetimes trying to find: a trademark style. Growing up in a family of highly talented artists, in mediums other than music, Maki was exposed at an early age to an environment that one can only imagine harbored an aura of creativity at a time when the mind is most malleable.
His exposure to the arts also led to his love of fashion and design. With a well-rounded right brain, Maki has established a certain sense of “texture” within his production, plus the ability to write lyrics with a range of emotional hues, one minute expressing his feelings toward major change and significant loss, to the next, a heart-on-the-sleeve declaration of love.
Adams’s most recent single “Like I Do” was a clear and present step forward from the three singles that came before it in this calendar year. Collaborating for the first time with producer Cary Singer — to provide a “real focus” to his creative process, per Maki — “Like I Do” is a carefully designed sonic experience that is based on the feeling of being close to somebody because you’ve bonded over shared traumatic experiences.
