Further pushing the narrative for East Coast artists, South Carolina born singer and craftsman, Mere Raj, is arguably one the most talented artists we've covered, not to mention, he produces most of his music and executes so very well. The 24-year old boasts a polished voice along with a well versed production skillset, and having growing up in North Carolina is now putting on for his roots, signed to Fashionably Early!
It's very cool to see how his artistry has almost come full circle, in a sort, flashing back to his early days and discovery of music on his family computer; he still utilizes a lot of the same techniques he did back then to gain some insight & inspiration, perusing the web and scrolling through Youtube. He spoke to how taking time for inspiration is a big part of his creative process.
"[I] try to find sh*t that inspires me, despite working everyday; I think people find themselves not wanting to make the music because they don’t have the inspiration and almost sorta hit a wall. I feel better practicing. Putting up shots."
I can almost draw parallels to artists like Don Toliver, dvsn, or even a Russ, but of course with his own spin on the whole thing. He pieces together very mellow vibes, easy on the ears, but enjoys what some of the more fast paced music has to offer, experimenting with sounds of R&B, hiphop, soul, and more. He mentioned music has always played as an escape from his reality: a slower paced, lax environment. Whereas the music takes him almost anywhere else; "Another planet", he said jokingly.
Raj has remained in grind mode for the year pumping out singles like most recent solo, "Some1else" as well as a beautiful collaboration featuring he and The China Blue. His song "Touch" has seen some of the most traction on Spotify with over 700,000+ plays and fortunately for us this is really just the beginning of momentum for this talent.
He tells us the projection for the rest of the year is a couple of single maybe more, but we can hope to expect to hear his first project in early 2022! Til' then, go check out his latest single down below!
