Certainly a rising artist on the scene, Mico, from the Greater Toronto Area--Brampton show some love-- is the artist we've elected to cover this week for his extremely talented craftsmanship, primarily exploring the indie-pop genre combined with pop/rock. I certainly feel like a broken record at this point, but covering such great artists like this one here is a great experience, to see how they are able to create different music forms, genres, and transition to create such good music all around.
He admits he likes to jump around, but you could argue that's what makes him so good is that his voice is so uniquely talented he can change tempos. "Although I jump all over the place, from alt-rock, to hyperpop, to industrial, to indietronica, and so many more genres influential to my sound, essentially the writing and composition all boils down to indie-pop/ pop-rock." Not to mention he can play a slew of instruments, adding another element to his artistry.
His first project, an EP titled 21st century heartbreak, released back in 2019 saw much success, featuring hits through and through. The track "who do you love" seemed to gravitate towards people the most as it reeled in over a 1 million streams on Spotify, but songs like "love her more" and the funky-popish "online - remix", featuring Zac Greer, are just as relevant. Had to note friend and producer Prxd. Jay helped produce a lot of the pop sensation which kickstarted his career, diving head first into heartbreak and love as far as Mico perceives it in this day and age.
Mico carries that early 2000's punk/rock nostalgic feel and I understand he explores that particularly in this latest 3-pack of songs off down!. The self titled song, really showcases his ingenious arrangement and the range of his voice. "had2do" featuring Marc Indigo and "make me leave" both have dope visualizers and as well feature the live guitar and SFX. He's also been able to utilize a familiar tool to a lot of people nowadays (TikTok) to get his music out there to the people, boasting a hefty following. It also has helped him in particularly reaching a US crowd he desires to tap into, he tells.
As bright as a future we know Mico has in this industry, we are just as excited for the art that comes with it and to that he shared some enticing news of what's to come from Brampton's best. "I'm gonna be releasing an EP sometime this fall...I think we're gonna leave a bit of a gap in between this next single so Down! has as much room to breathe right now. As for the future, this EP might be linked together with an entirely different project...."
