San Diego native, artist Myles Bryant, tops our artist highlight charts this week with his vivacious and soulful sound. He primarily sings over hip-hop-ish beats, but there's much more than meets the eye because he too can transcend artistic limitations. Myles has that soft, yet unique and almost grainy voice; not to mention his clever syntax when you listen closely to what he's preaching.
He draws inspiration from an array of talents like rapper Isaiah Rashad, singer John Mayer, rock-pop artist James Blount and it's this that allows him that space to create music in multi-faceted ways. In fact, the first album Myles received as a kid from his pops was Americas' Most Wanted by affirmed rap legend Ice Cube. However, it doesn't end or begin with these prominent artists.
He loves to collaborate with artists and friends alike, more often organically than not, and it too is these people who drive him daily. He has hopped on tracks with artists like Chase Alex and LAN PARTY, also staying true to his OG collective Deadboys. His creative process ranges from a studio full of people, coming and going, flooding the room with ideas, to recording solo with just an engineer/producer. Myles says the latter is his ideal creative space though, to where he can get down to some of the grit of his emotions.
"Music for me, is like a good way to express myself, being that I'm not the most talkative person. I want people to be able to just listen to my music without almost even noticing it's on. Just ride to it."
And that Myles does, telling stories of love, heartbreak, confusion, and more in the crazy enough life he has lived growing up in California and having moved to Chicago to attend Colombia College. Songs like "After Sleep" and "Imethereal" off his last project, Noni, uphold this notion. He describes his sound as an assortment of bright pop, R&B, with rap.
He is back in California now, soaking up all that LA has to offer, consistently honing his craft these days and he wouldn't have it any other way. He does in fact have a project on the way--An EP titled Oh Hi! of which we can expect sometime in September, he says. He's been in quite a mode for this project, he revealed, testing the lengths of the esteemed hyperpop genre and trying new sounds. Expect some visuals developing from Oh Hi! as well!
For now go tune into his latest project Noni.
