25 year-old Noah Richardson, out of Philadelphia, has a journey unlike many others. Growing up in a funeral home where his family ran their business, Noah’s upbringing was far from conventional. Yet, it gave him a unique perspective on life and death, which you can slightly feel in the emotional depth of his music. He always had a love for creative writing, but for a long time, his focus was on screenwriting rather than music. However, a rough period during college led him to combine his love for storytelling with singing, and that’s when his music career officially began. It was a leap of faith after hitting "rock bottom," but it’s safe to say he hasn’t looked back since.
Noah has been making music for five years now, and his latest singles, “Hail Mary’s” and “Houston,” show just how far he’s come. "Hail Mary's," his first release of the year, came out of a difficult 1-2 year stretch where life seemed to throw everything at him. Even though he's usually pretty optimistic, the weight of it all became too much, and he found himself living on a friend’s couch. Those tough moments birthed the track, and in true Noah Richardson fashion, he managed to turn that pain into something uplifting. It's part of his personality, taking bad experiences and twisting them into something positive, maybe a quality that stems from his funeral home background and his ability to use humor to cope with dark times.
“Houston” has a different inspiration altogether though. Believe it or not, it was sparked by the flat earth conspiracy theories floating around the internet. Noah found himself fascinated by how invested people could get in something so far fetched, and it mirrored his own sense of feeling stuck in life. He used the song as a way to step back and gain perspective, realizing that sometimes all you need is a bit of distance to see things clearly. It’s a track about finding clarity when life feels confusing, and that honestly will stick with anyone who’s ever felt lost.
When it comes to his influences in music, Noah’s taste is extensive. Early on, he was drawn to artists like John Mayer, Amy Winehouse, and Mac Miller, with Mac in particular serving as a foundation during his high school years. More recently, his influences have expanded to include Sheryl Crow, Third Eye Blind, and Dominic Fike.
Outside of music, Noah’s love for storytelling hasn’t faded. He’s a self-professed movie and show buff, constantly watching films and shows to fuel his creativity. It’s a form of escape for him, but also a way to keep that part of his artistic soul alive.
Looking back on his music career so far, one of the most meaningful moments for Noah was when a couple told him one of his songs had become “their song.” Knowing that people across the world are making memories to his music is exactly what keeps him going. Recently, while on tour, he had the surreal experience of hearing crowds sing his lyrics back to him, something that still blows his mind. If he could give his younger self any advice, it would be to take care of himself, be patient, and trust that everything’s going to be okay.
