West Coast producer Pilot Kid is the talent of which we’re glad to introduce. If you weren't already familiar, born and raised in Reedley, CA, he was inclined to enjoy the likes of 2 Pac and Dre. Once he sought out music himself, his pallet expanded as time went on, tuning into the Tyler, The Creator’s of the world and other West Coast affiliates. Pilot Kid picked up producing back in 2015 and has gone the whole 9 yards since then to ensure he sets himself up as the best producer he can be.
“I picked it up after watching a video of J Cole breaking down how he created the beat for power trip, prior to that I didn’t know anything about production really. I think that video really made the idea of music clear to me, like the computer and all the equipment were tangible tools I could use to reach my dreams.”
His style is eclectic and groovy, detailing some key old hip-hop elements and Cali intoxicated cadences. Moreover, his touch reveres far and wide, being able to transcend some great bops and slower vibes as well, but what remains constant is the professionalism in his sound: Every last piece is quintessential. One can expect an allocation of instruments and varying uses of synths and sounds, but above all else that funk that he brings to the ballad is unmatched.
He has landed placements with some of the best in the business including $NOT, Russ, Tobi Lou, and others. Not long ago he signed to Sony furthering his achievements. He too, has ventured into making some of his own music as an artist, growing this empire he has thus far created. To look back and be a Pharrell of sorts is something that would venerate himself as a powerful force in the industry.
As genuine as they come, nothing has changed internally for Pilot as he still sets out to achieve organic, wonderful music—omitting any excess that may come with rising fame and collaborating with music sensations. “…thats what truly matters, at the end of the day, remove any name and clout attach and we’re all just people trying to make great music.”
