Artist Highlight: Sona Blue

Sona Blue, a 24 year-old singer-songwriter, is carving a unique path in the music world. Based in Gloucestershire, he recently moved back home after spending some time in London, and it’s clear that the change has allowed him to reconnect with himself. He describes enjoying the quiet countryside, spending time outdoors, and diving into hobbies like woodworking and silversmithing, things he missed during his years in the city.

Music has always been a part of Sona's life, but it wasn’t until he turned 18 that he started writing songs and finding his voice as a singer. Growing up, he played various instruments, but it was seeing artists like Brockhampton create their magic in modest, homegrown setups that inspired him to take his passion more seriously. That DIY ethos helped him realize he didn’t need a fancy studio to make music that mattered. His journey into songwriting became a way to process his feelings and connect with others.

His latest release, Shameless, is a deeply personal track that captures the raw emotions following a breakup. Sona Blue describes writing the song during a turbulent time in his life while staying on his cousin's sofa. The vulnerability in Shameless resonates with listeners, showing the power of turning heartbreak into art. The creative process was cathartic, allowing him to express the shock and pain of his experience in a way that feels authentic and relatable. For Sona Blue, it’s not just a song, it’s a snapshot of a pivotal moment in his life.

When asked about his influences in music, Sona’s eclectic taste shines through. He’s drawn to the sounds of the '90s, with icons like Jeff Buckley, Smashing Pumpkins, and Erykah Badu among his favorites. He also finds inspiration in the raw intimacy of MTV Unplugged sessions, where artists strip down their music to its core. This blend of nostalgia and vulnerability plays a big role in shaping his own sound, which feels both timeless and deeply personal.

For Sona Blue, the most meaningful moments in his music career come from the connections he makes with listeners. He talks about heartfelt comments on his YouTube videos that remind him his music is reaching people on a deeper level. In an age where social media often prioritizes numbers over impact, these genuine interactions are a powerful reminder of why he creates in the first place. They’re proof that his art is not only being heard but also truly felt.

Looking ahead, Sona is full of excitement for what’s next. He’s set to release a new song with Dirt Flirt on January 22nd, a collaboration he’s eager to share with fans, and February will bring a live show in Camden, where he plans to unveil unreleased music. When asked if there’s one piece of advice he wishes he could give his younger self, it’s to stay true to who he is. “Be yourself,” he says. “The less you compare your work to others, the better it will be.” And with the path he’s forging, it’s clear Sona Blue is doing just that, creating music that’s unapologetically him.
