27-year-old rapper Champ Santiago coming out of the eastside of Atlanta, Georgia brings a new flavor and edge that I feel is currently missing in a sometimes stale rap scene. A true student of the game, he has always paid attention to the legends who came before him. He studied what made them great, and even start writing as early as 6 years old before taking music full fledge in 2016.
Produced by Kenneth English “Chaka Khan” came together very organically. The two had previously teamed up together on a couple songs on Santiago’s last EP “Santiago”. One night in the studio, after shuffling through some beats, a certain beat caught his ear, which led to the birth of this song. Champ knew this beat was the one. It felt perfect because the production allowed him to show his versatility which is why there’s no chorus leaving him with the opportunity to attack the beat with no interruptions.
Champ is building momentum with a slew of singles this year he plans to release til the full-length project that is slated to drop “top of 2023”. “I wanna build my catalog where people will get a good idea of who I am as an artist...the 2 projects I got out now, were a good introduction, but a lot of people are on the fence about me as an artist.” He can almost guarantee, that what he plans to release next will be a good indication of who he is as an artist and what he's truly capable of.” Go stream Chaka Khan ASAP!
