EXTC by Greek Proves That R&B isn't Dead

Located out of California, greek has been making music for 2 years and each project never ceases to impress, first growing traction from his single “when the world is on fire”. “EXTC” being his first album. Although he is still evolving his sound he is confident enough to where he is willing to experiment incorporating elements for different genres such as rap or more alternative works. Sonically, each track is an audio treat for listeners, “lovers&friends” and “rewind” both being standouts for me.

Producing all the tracks himself, Greek is constantly melding other elements from other genres and doing it well. Using his voice as an instrument as much as anything from the way he places his runs or layers his vocals the falsettos to the way he’ll switch his flow to a more rap-like cadence. He seems to be a fan of the big dramatic build up in “Always” the seventh track on “EXTC” seems to highlight his love the dramatic build up. As the song starts off, the soft sultry vocals that were used all throughout the project play, for just a little bit. Fading back until all you hear is the instrumental. As the song starts to reach it's climax, emotional almost moaning, vocals come back in to drive the point that this song is nothing more than an extension of greek and his artistry. Wrapping up as the track fades out and you are left to your own devices.

RnB isn't dead and “EXTC” is a testament to that. The entire album is digestible and a great listen from start to finish.
