Jackson August's first release “7ELEVEN” is an ode to being lost in your 20's and having true growing pains, while trying to figure life out. He says he feels like he made this one in a place of ‘mad uncertainty’, with the opening lines “7ELEVEN after midnight, was I here the night before I can't recall and my life is going nowhere growing up is just as scary after all.” Jackson produced and wrote the first half of the track in just a couple of hours in his bedroom, but it took a lot longer to finish as he started getting really meticulous at the end. Dropping his own music for the first time is super scary Jackson says, as he has had other projects before, but having just his name is a wild thought in his mind. It's a feeling of excitement but also like "dang, you're on your own now".
Jackson has been making music since the fourth grade when he started playing the saxophone. He was really into jazz for a while until he taught himself how to play guitar in high school and began writing songs. He was always inspired by really great songwriting and grew up on Carol King and Bob Dylan. True folk music always had the best storytelling, and he tries to exemplify that in his music. Jackson is an alternative indie artist, producer, and instrumentalist born and raised in NYC. He's just 22 years old and is already making a name for himself in the industry.
When asked if there are any artists he plans on or hopes to work with soon, Jackson replied that he just wants to make music with his homies, including some names like Cisco Swank and Yoshi T. For anyone starting to make music, Jackson's advice is to just stay true to yourself. “Sometimes that's the hardest thing, but when you're doing that, it's literally impossible to do wrong”. Jackson August's music is a testament to this advice, as he stays true to himself and his inspirations, creating tracks that are raw, honest, and relatable.
