Relationships can bring the best out of us and at times, the worst out of us. splendi, female indie-pop artist by way of Pennsylvania, transforms into the fictional sleuth that is the namesake of the song—describing the findings and finagling of catching someone you loved in the wrong.
“‘Nancy drew’ is about my struggles with trust issues. In the song, I compare myself to a detective because I felt like I was trying to follow clues and solve mysteries throughout the entire relationship, which is just an exhausting thing to deal with.
Having started creating music in high school, songwriting has been a knack of splendi's for quite some time. She never held intention to release the music, but after picking up drums and working with other artists, good friend @nickfrom.space (producer of “nancy drew”) gave her the push and here she is, experimenting outside of her bounds and transcending into a thorough artist.
"First name Nancy, last name Drew and you reinforce my trust issues”—the hook and my favorite line of the song, expresses her mental space in the midst of relational volatility. splendi's voice flows well with the grainy foreground of the title, plus some splendid drumming and guitar incorporations. Overall, there’s a subtle overtone with some bursts of sound and one can enjoy the irony of how good the song sounds despite the tragic undertone. The cluster of facets make for another brilliant single from splendi.
splendi has flirted with thoughts of strategy, having just beginning in the artistry and wanting to put out what fits her agenda. “My lyrics are just stories and honest reflections of my emotions about certain things.” Look out for more relatable music and who knows, maybe an EP sooner than later.
