Florida has always been a notable “emo-hotspot”, but lately the underground scene has been growing more than ever. Bury Your Idols, an upcoming emo-rock band from Winter Haven, central Florida, recently released their new single; “a boxcutter romance” which has gotten a bit of a buzz in the last few days.
Fortunately, I had the chance to speak with the lead vocalist of the band, Jordan, and he contributed some insight as for the creation of the song, along with some interesting facts and upcoming creative direction. “I normally write down poems or lyric ideas in my notepad, but the intro verse for the new single just came to me while I was writing some guitar parts”, said Jordan. With intro lyrics like “oh you really know, how to set the stage with your hopeless romantics, oh that's so tragic”, the theme of the song seems to be about past relationship experiences from the songwriters point of view. While this is true, Jordan also mentioned that this song was written for a listener's point of view as well, with the goal to reach the target audience of people experiencing similar situations. The song features an abundance of alluring guitar riffs and drum patterns, along with one of my personal favorite falsettos i've heard so far this year. After the song was completely finished and written, Jordan sent it over to Felipe Silva, the guitarist of another emerging post-hardcore band “L’exquisite Douleur”, for him to mix and master.
The Bury Your Idols band members include; Jordan (vocalist), Jamari (Bassist), Joe (Rhythm Guitarist), Tristan (Lead Guitarist), and Zach (drummer), making it a five man band with influences like Senses Fail, Finch, Taking Back Sunday, And The Used. With big aspirations, the band is planning to drop new merch for their recent EP (jealousy, and the bad idea of setting my friends on fire), along with dropping a new 6 track EP in the coming months.
