The Vision: NxG's fearless evolution into "Loose Screws"

One aspect of music that I think is severely underrated, is the fact that there are no set of rules to follow. In fact, we've reached a monumental point where there are no creative limitations, and artists aren't forced to pick a path. One artist who embodies this sentiment and never boxed themselves in is rising songwriter/rapper, NxG. The Philadelphia native is miraculously redefining his legacy and how he will be remembered by constantly evolving his sound.

Growing up, NxG was exposed to a variety of music which helped shape him into the artist he is today. Listening to legendary bands like Coldplay & Nirvana and hometown heroes like Lil Uzi Vert all contributed to his diverse music taste. More importantly, they directly inspired him to get out of his comfort zone during the creation process which he successfully accomplished in his new single, “Loose Screws”.

“ ‘Loose Screws’ wasn't even supposed to be a song, that I was supposed to drop. It was actually a reference for 24kGoldn. But they ain't want the record and I felt it was a very strong record. So I was like you know what, f*ck that, Imma put it out at least and see what happens”.

Produced by an all-star team of producers including Ben Thomas, Yeezo, and Aidan Han, this trio combine their talents to assist NXG with stepping out of his comfort zone. I'm primarily used to seeing NXG focus on being in the new-age style of rap, so it was dope to see him successfully crossover and make an NJ-influenced drill record. There's a lot that I pleasantly enjoy about this song, from the bouncy energy & hard-hitting 808’s. “Loose Screws” has all the essential elements to be the song of the summer.

“I'm really going to destroy my (original) creative process. I had a creative process that I was comfortable with, and ‘Loose Screws’ came about because I did not follow that process at all. I just did a bunch of random sh*t and it turned out better than all the songs I was making with my creative process.”

I'm usually the type of person who is wary when I see artists stray away from the sound that we originally know and love them for. But it's quite remarkable to see an artist like NxG completely reinvent his sound as he did on “Loose Screws”. When asked what can we expect next, NxG ambitiously replied “I'm just going to keep experimenting. I'm going to take yall on the process of finding my new sound.”

We look forward to the NxG’s progression and the next chapter in his musical journey. But in the meantime, be sure to stream “Loose Screws” down below.
