Hailing from California’s beloved Bay Area and currently based out of Paris, France, 18 year-old Sebastien Suter-Ternyck - perhaps better known as bassea - rounds out their first career year in the music industry with the highly anticipated release of “maniac”, alongside fellow collaborator and GORESET member Captain Morg.
A track that has garnered attention across various music review streams (such as a Niztopia stream earlier this month that featured popular artist Tom The Mail Man and the recurring Hivemind stream, to name a few), “maniac” marks the burgeoning pop talent’s second official single of 2022. After the January release of “flowerfields”, which was spotlighted on Overcast’s “Forecast” community playlist, bassea left himself a tough act to follow - or so it seemed. With “maniac”, however, the young artist raises the bar yet again in effortless fashion.
Mellow and nostalgic, Sebastien’s soft and airy musing all over “maniac” perfectly complements the strained croon of Captain Morg’s relentlessly catchy vocal performance. Over a minimalistic yet melodic string arrangement, the pair exchange their woes over their respective toxic and supposedly crazed love interests. While Captain Morg’s verse could be considered the highlight of the single, bassea’s brilliant consistency throughout is a shining testament to how far they’ve come.
With only a little over a year of experience under their belt, Sebastien has come far indeed. And while this young artist still has a long way to go, the back to back releases of “flowerfields” and “maniac” signal a bright future in bassea’s career. With an ever-increasing talent pool and a growing catalogue that any new artist would be proud to call their own, Sebastien is poised to make his second year in the industry an even more impactful one.
I, for one, have not been this excited about a new artist in a long time. Promising even more music - and a potential project - in the near future, bassea is definitely one to keep on your radar.
